So long, Oily Skin!

So long, Oily Skin!

Choosing the right kind of soap for people with oily skin types

Oily skin may be caused by a multitude of reasons like genetics, environment, over-washing, cosmetics, hormonal changes, or a poor diet. Apart from being a perennial irritation, oily skin can also cause a variety of conditions like acne, blackheads, pimples, and other blemishes. But controlling your skin’s oil balance isn’t actually a tedious task - with the right soap, and a little care and consistency, anybody can bid farewell to oily skin. Here are a few tips to help you get started towards your healthy, smooth and supple skin.

Choose your cleanser

Your skin becomes oily when the sebaceous glands work over capacity, and produces more oil than necessary to keep the skin healthy. If one has oily skin, one of the first things to note is to not choose a soap that might dry out the skin. A gentle natural soap with citrus and essential oils like aloe vera, lemon lavender, etc., can help maintain the oil balance of the skin. Other bars with activated carbon, like our Charcoal Soap, have properties that are effective at cleaning the pores of dirt and debris without affecting the natural balance.

Hydration is important

It’s a common misconception that oily skin types don’t require moisturising, when in reality, it is actually the other way around. Hydration is not the same as the natural oil that our skin produces. A good hydrating agent prevents the skin’s water content from evaporating, and increases the moisture level too. This is crucial because when oily skin loses water, more oil production is triggered, thereby increasing the damage. A soap or moisturiser with pure, unrefined botanical oils like jojoba, can help soothe, hydrate and soften the skin.

Prevention is better than infection

Acne is a major effect of oily skin, apart from other irritations and infections. Many may be of the belief acne is simply pimples, but it is much more severe with varying signs and symptoms. Soaps loaded with healing properties, like our Tea Tree Oil Soap and Aloe Vera Soap, are effective agents to counter acne. Tea Tree Oil, especially, is known to heal infections and inflammations caused by acne, without triggering any side effects like dryness.

In short, oily skin is an annoying skin condition which has the potential to trigger a lot of other harmful irritations. But with consistent care and the right cleansers, it is quite easy to get oily skin to stay away from you forever.
